Graduate Careers

The 12-18 month programme enables a small number of selected newly qualified speech and language therapists to gain a breadth of clinical experience across the mainstream primary, secondary and special school settings.

Therapists are be provided with weekly supervision for the the first three months and then once per month thereafter. There is also provision to attend peer supervision meeting to discuss specific therapy & caseload management techniques.

Graduate speech therapists enter onto a structured pathway to enable sufficient time to transition smoothly through the Newly Qualified Framework to gain certified RCSLT status.

Opportunity is provided for external CPD courses, which are relevant and beneficial to the client groups they work with. Therapists are also actively encouraged to join and attend Special Interest Groups form a project and write articles.

Speech and Language Therapist Job Summary

Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people

Plan, execute and monitor communication therapy programmes for individuals and small groups of pupils with special educational needs at a specialist level, targeted and universal level.

Monitor, assess, record and report on the impact of speech and language therapy programmes.Liaise with class co-ordinators, teaching assistants, assistants, or volunteers.

The speech and language therapist will be required to ensure pupils safety.

Promote the inclusion, independence and self esteem of all pupils.

Liaise with other professionals, parents and carers outside the school.

Write EHCP, Assessment & Summary/Update reports.

Contribute towards INSET days for other staff, where applicable.

Speech and Language Therapist Person Specification

The ability to work independently and to use initiative.

High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential data sensitively and securely.

Motivation to work with children and young people.

The ability to relate well to and to form and maintain appropriate relationships with children, young people and adults.

The ability to work as part of an MDT with an understanding of staff roles and responsibilities within the school.

A strong sense of responsibility. A calm manner with a positive attitude. A proactive rather than a reactive approach to situations and clinical feedback.

A high level of stamina concentration, patience and tolerance.

NQP Therapists are be provided with weekly supervision for the the first three months and then once per month thereafter. Experienced therapists as often as they feel it is required. There is also provision to attend peer supervision meeting to discuss specific therapy techniques, caseload management and the latest research.

We only offer therapists fully recognised external CPD courses with certification. Therapists have taken part in courses courses delivered by: Makaton, PECS, Michael Palin Centre for Stammering, Word Aware and more! We also give you a Personal Development Plan to ensure you are hitting your aspirations within your daily practice.

No, we expect you to enjoy the time with friends and family. Past therapists have used the 6-week summer break to travel around Europe. We do not ask you to carry out private client work for the company during the holiday periods. This is your paid free time to do as you wish.

Most full time therapists work with 3 schools. Part time therapists will usually be 2.

No, we have designed the service to be inside Zones 1-2. Most therapists commute 30mins each way between home and school. All schools are within easy reach of mainline tube stations. Therapists commute in rather than out.

Yes, all speech and language therapists are required to have HCPC registration. Therapists are also subject to enhanced DBS checks before starting employment. All therapists are also members of the RCSLT.
